Drivin' around with my AC on....

Ocho got snipped today. DocK called at around 1:30 and said that they'd had a hard time getting him to go under for the anesthesia. They had to give him an extra dose of ketamine. He had a reaction to it, although I'm not sure if it was the extra dose that did it or just the ketamine itself. Anyway, Ocho became hyperthermic, a rare reaction to anesthesia that was in the news recently. His temperature was up around 103.5. When I got there to pick up Ben and Ocho at 5:45, it was 102-point-something. The vet tech took his temp again just before we left, and it had crept back up to 103.3. I was instructed to keep him cool and check his temperature every 2 hours. If his temp went back up, I was to take him directly to Dove Lewis.

In Ben news, his bloodwork and urine labs came back almost perfect. His blood glucose was a little elevated, but that was probably due to stress since there was no glucose in his urine. So no diabetes. Whew. He could be prediabetic, but the doc wasn't worried. His TSH is also elevated, but since he's relatively young we're just going to keep an eye on it. They said he was a very unhappy patient and spent his entire stay at the hospital curled up in a little ball, smashed up against the back of his cage. Poor little Benny! He's currently curled up on the couch with Spooky.

Since I'd driven Homer to work this morning so that I could have the car to cart the cats around, I had to pick him up from work. He called me before I was halfway home and said he was done for the day, so I turned around and headed to the hospital to pick him up. I still had Ben and Ocho in the back seat, and I had the AC cranked all the way up. I was freezing my BALLS off, but I figured any little bit would help cool Ocho down. For his part, Ocho was chillin' (figuratively and literally) in his cat carrier and actually sat on an ice pack the entire 2 hours he was in the car. Apparently he didn't get the memo about his life being in danger.

He's currently sequestered in the office with the windows open. It's a brisk 40 degrees in here, and his temperature as of an hour ago was 101.3. Ocho is BOUNCING OFF THE WALLS. I've given up trying to keep him calm. It's simply not possible. He's happy and playful and energetic and cuddly and boy do his bizzalls look funny right now. His fluffy butt has been shaved, and that's all I'm going to say about that.

Tomorrow: Chicken lecture at Farmington Gardens, then a trip to Blue Moon to buy film for our Holgas because...

Sunday: Sisters Bingo!!!
